Effective mid-May, a full-time, seasonal By-Law Officer has joined Pelham’s By-Law Department for the duration of spring and summer.

Warmer weather and seasonal activities, festivals and events mean more residents and visitors are enjoying Pelham’s outdoor amenities, facilities, parks and trails, and their safety is the By-Law Department’s main priority. Effective mid-May, a full-time, seasonal By-Law Officer has joined Pelham’s By-Law Department for the duration of spring and summer.
“The addition of a seasonal By-Law Officer helps us enhance our security presence during events as well as our park patrols,” said Fire Chief, Bob Lymburner, who oversees the Pelham By-Law Department. “We look forward to delivering more efficient and effective enforcement throughout Pelham.”
The Seasonal Officer’s main focus is to maintain a by-law presence at Town events, festivals and parades, such as the “Thursday Night Experience,” which includes the Pelham Farmers’ Market, Supper Market and Bandshell Concerts. Pelham’s four-daySummerfest, and Canada Day parade and celebrations, are also top priority.

Additional areas of focus include parks and trails patrols during days and evenings to ensure all members of the public can enjoy these amenities.

The new Officer’s main method of transportation will be a bicycle – a decision that supports the Town’s strategic goal of decreasing the overall ecological footprint. The Officer will be easily recognizable to the public by wearing a standardized by-law uniform and the Town’s decaling of the bicycle that designates it a by-law vehicle.

This method of transport also allows the Officer access to areas and trails where motor vehicles are either prohibited or accessibility is limited.

The Seasonal By-Law Officer has full authority to enforce all infractions relating to Town of Pelham By-Laws, such as Parking, Property Standards, Noise, Zoning, and so on. The Officer is stationed out of Pelham Fire Station #1 (177 Highway 20 West, Fonthill) within the By-Law Office.
